CANCELED: Please note that this Lunch on Fridays event was canceled Thursday, April 3 due to unforeseen circumstances. It will be rescheduled for fall semester.
Spend your lunch hour with children’s book illustrator and Cleveland Institute of Art faculty member Suzie McGinness as she discusses her recent sabbatical and presents "A Year of Picture Book Research and Development."
McGinness' talk will take place during Lunch on Fridays from 12:15 to 1:30pm Friday, April 4 in CIA's Peter B. Lewis Theater.
McGinness' personal studio and research practice is rooted in the field of Picture Books and its many expressions and crossovers with printmaking and artist books. These correlating fields of interest were the catalysts of inspiration for her sabbatical work.
Overall, McGinness' sabbatical consisted of a multi-project proposal focusing on two picture book concepts, one for commercial application and the second on a limited edition artist book/picture book concept. The sabbatical also involved attending two conferences: Bologna Children's Book Fair in Italy and Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators Conference in New York City. These conferences focused on the national and global picture book markets. Her studio practice was focused on play, exploration and printmaking applications of screen print and risograph.
