Spend your lunch hour with designers Gary Fogelson and Ryan Waller from Brooklyn-based graphic design studio Other Means as they examine a handful of the studio’s visual identity projects, the rules that guided them, and the interpretations required when those rules ran out. From the speakers: “In the world of graphic design, rules govern every mark, every margin, every choice. But rules alone can’t account for the moments when a system meets reality—and something has to give.”
“Law & Order” will take place during Lunch on Fridays from 12:15 to 1:30pm Friday, October 23 in CIA's Peter B. Lewis Theater.
This edition of Lunch on Fridays was produced in partnership with the Cleveland Print Room.
Speaker Bio
Gary Fogelson and Ryan Waller are partners at Other Means, a graphic design studio in Brooklyn, NY interested in finding the productive tensions that emerge from placing one thing next to an unlikely other: historical precedent and contemporary culture, institutional voices and popular vernacular, rigorous systems and their inevitable exceptions.
The studio designs identities and books, builds websites and exhibitions, develops brand strategies and signage systems, and frequently teaches, hosts lectures, and leads workshops. All of these activities are equal to each other and typically happen at the same time.
Parking
Lunch on Fridays attendees may park in CIA's Lot 73 and Annex Lot, both of which surround our campus. Please note that signs posted around those lots correctly state that parking typically requires a CIA permit or visitor pass and that violators will be ticketed. However, to accommodate our valued Lunch on Fridays attendees, that policy won't be enforced during the program. Have questions? Please contact Reinberger Gallery at reinbergergallery@cia.edu or 216.421.7407.
