Spend your lunch hour with Steven Intermill, Director of the Buckland Museum of Witchcraft and Magick for an immersive lecture exploring how the silver screen acts as a black mirror, revealing esoteric ideas and hidden wisdom to the masses. We will examine the evolution of these themes from the dawn of cinema to the present day, framing the filmmaker as a modern-day shaman, healer, and teacher.

Intermill’s talk will take place during Lunch on Fridays from 12:15 to 1:30pm Friday, October 2 in CIA's Peter B. Lewis Theater.  

Intermill will also be introducing The Last Sacrifice (2025) for its screening at CIA's Cinematheque. The Last Sacrifice is a fascinating documentary that delves into the real-life 1945 witchcraft killing of Charles Walton—the terrifying event which inspired The Wicker Man and birthed the folk horror genre. This unsettling true-crime interrogation probes into the eerie, enigmatic cultural undercurrents that shaped 1970’s folk horror genre, leaving an indelible mark on cinema and public psyche.  

The screening is 6:45pm, Friday, October 2. Tickets are available online or at the door for $12, or $9 for Cinematheque members; CIA and CSU students; and those age 25 and under. 

Speaker Bio:

Steven Intermill is the Director of the Buckland Museum of Witchcraft & Magick, which operates out of Cleveland, Ohio. He spends his free time with his spouse Jillian, three cats Robat, Berti, and Lil Ricky, as well as his modular synthesizer. He's always trying to find the sine wave that opens up the Trans-Yuggothian gateways.  

The mission of the Buckland Museum of Witchcraft & Magick (established 1966) is to preserve and explore the culture of witchcraft, neo-paganism, and occult practices, while also educating the public about myths and misconceptions through the collection of magical artifacts gathered by its founder, Raymond Buckland. It aims to provide a non-dogmatic platform for expression and to fight the stigma surrounding witchcraft and related occult traditions. 

Parking: Lunch on Fridays attendees may park in CIA's Lot 73 and Annex Lot, both of which surround our campus. Please note that signs posted around those lots correctly state that parking typically requires a CIA permit or visitor pass and that violators will be ticketed. However, to accommodate our valued Lunch on Fridays attendees, that policy won't be enforced during the program. Have questions?
