Russos bring infinite grace to Cinematheque

Filmmakers Anthony and Joe Russo were the very special guests May 5, 2018 for the sold-out screening of the new Marvel film, The Avengers: Infinity War, at the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque.

The brothers, who grew up in Cleveland and speak affectionately about their Cinematheque visits over the years, were on hand for Russo-Rama, what was to be a three-film extravaganza that kicked off with Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War.

A neighborhood power outage left the theater dark for most of the day, but Infinity Wars played that night, flanked by an introduction from Anthony and a Q&A with the brothers after the show.

“This theater is such an amazing resource,” Anthony said. “Joe and I had many of our formative experiences with movies happen at the Cinematheque. And I can't overstate what a special place it had in our lives and our connection to movies.”

“There were two highlights of the publicity tour for us,” Anthony said. “One was the world premiere, which happened about a week and a half ago. … And the second thing to look forward to was the three-movie Russo brothers Marvel movie marathon.”

John Ewing, director of the Cinematheque, screened the two Captain America films May 15.

The brothers are already at work on a sequel to Infinity War.
