CLEVELAND—Milo Spencer, a senior studying Drawing at the Cleveland Institute of Art, has partnered with Human Heart Studios to present Reminder to Play, an artist-led workshop and conversation open to everyone with the goal of promoting creation over perfection as well as accessibility and acceptance in art.

In an effort to engage a wide range of people and promote creativity, the drawing event will be open to the community and led by encouragement to make art regardless of skill level. All participants have to do is dedicate time to their own creativity! Drawing materials and paper will be available to every artist for the day. While making (and playing), participants will be encouraged to listen to or jump into conversations around accessibility in art, acceptance of their own creativity and the elusive spark known as inspiration.

"Conversation inspires me to create. I think that art is necessary and inherent to us as humans, and I want to be a part of cultivating a space where people feel safe enough to be creative," Spencer says. "I would love to dive into everyone's thoughts on how conversation sparks creation, understanding, inspiration and so much more. What better way to do that than to host a giant conversation about it? I am excited to hold space for those who may have been silenced and have a little artist inside themselves, ready to play."

Reminder to Play will take place on Saturday, September 19 at Human Heart Studios (4700 Lakeside Ave. Suite 7-3S, Cleveland). Participate at any time from 1 to 6pm. Snacks and art supplies will be provided.

Spencer is a multidisciplinary artist who values curiosity and exploration in art. While they specialize in drawing and painting, Spencer is inclined to try every medium they are inspired by, remaining a student of art for life. More of Spencer's artwork can be seen on Instagram at @mmilochondria.

Reminder to Play was created through the Creativity Works program, which is made possible by the generous support of the Fenn Educational Fund and the G.R. Lincoln Family Foundation. Creativity Works is a self-initiated internship program with the goal of supporting a student's professional development. Participating students create proposals that align with their long-term professional goals.
