United States | 2024 | Stephen T. Maing & Brett Story
Chris Smalls and his fellow worker-organizers inspired the producers of this documentary to follow the Amazon Labor Union (ALU) as they began their independent union drive at Amazon's JFK8 warehouse in Staten Island. Like David and Goliath for the post-Reagan era of union decline and globalized corporate capital, witness the highs and lows of a group of current and former Amazon workers fight to organize their workplace. Brett Story (The Hottest August) and Stephen T. Maing’s (Crime + Punishment) film keeps its focus on the painstaking and dedicated process of collective grassroots organizing outside of mainstream union structures. The screening will be followed by a conversation with union members and labor representatives, plus audience Q&A. 100 min. Co-presented by Northeast Ohio Worker Center and Cleveland Art Workers.
