Bespoke

Students from two CIA courses will have work on view in an exhibition inspired by designer, artist and author Sara Hendren’s research and writing.

Students from two courses—Drawing Professor Sarah Kabot’s “Drawing Beyond Observation” and Sculpture + Expanded Media Professor Sarah Paul’s “Installation: Empire of the Senses”—will have work on view in Bespoke, an exhibition inspired by designer, artist and author Sara Hendren’s research and writing.

Bespoke will open from 5 to 8pm Friday, November 8 in the Ann and Norman Roulet Student + Alumni Gallery in conjunction with the opening of Possibility for Repair in Reinberger Gallery. Bespoke will remain on view through Thursday, December 12.

Hendren is CIA's 2024–25 Bickford Visiting Artist. The Bickford Visiting Artist Endowment Fund was established by George P. Bickford in 1962 and is used to bring distinguished artists to the College to supplement the regular instructional program. This year's Bickford Visiting Artist grantee is Drawing Assistant Professor Amber Kempthorn.

Hendren will lead an artist talk—Cyborgs, Misfits, and Makers: Art, Design, and the Future of the Human Body—on November 14 at CIA. The lecture caps a semester of intra-departmental collaborations related to themes grounded in her recent book, What Can a Body Do?: How We Meet the Built World. Programming organized by CIA faculty, Reinberger Gallery and the Jane B. Nord Center for Teaching + Learning included reading groups, exhibitions, course connections, student-led programs and teaching workshops.
