Frequently Asked Questions
Unless otherwise noted, Adult Classes and Instructor Series are limited to participants age 18+. Some adult level classes may be open to high school students. Additional parent/guardian permission may be required.
Courses may be canceled due to low enrollment. If you are registered for a course that is canceled, you will be offered the opportunity to enroll in another available course or have your full tuition refunded.
Decisions on course cancellations are at least one week before courses begin. Early registrations lead to more courses that run, so we encourage you to register early.
In the event that there is a building closure or your instructor needs to cancel a class, students will be notified as early as possible via email. A make-up class will be held in the week following the end of your course. We recommend you tentatively block off this week, in case it is needed.
In order to receive a certificate qualifying your CIA Continuing Education course for CEU credits, teachers are responsible for having their course instructor sign off on their weekly class attendance. Please bring this form to each class for your instructor to sign. At the end of your course scan and email your completed form to ce@cia.edu to receive a certificate.Teachers are granted .1 CEU per class hour.
Students will only have access to their CIA classroom during the scheduled class dates and times with an instructor present. Only instructors and registered students should be present in the classroom during class time. At times, spaces may also be shared with degree seeking CIA students.
Any tuition discount must be entered at the time of purchase. We are unable to apply a discount after registration.
Only one discount code can be used per transaction.

CIA’s Figure Model Policy is posted in all classrooms where figure model drawing takes place. Students taking a class that features drawing from a nude or clothed model will also receive a digital copy of the policy before their class starts.
We cannot prorate or reimburse tuition for any missed classes. We encourage you to contact your instructor via their information in the syllabus to discuss any material you may have missed. CIA cannot offer any individual make up time.
Parking is available in Lot 73, conveniently located behind the school off East 117th Street. You may also park in the Annex Lot when it is open.
Entrance A, located on East 116th, will be the door you will use to enter the building.

To initiate a tuition refund, please send written notification to ce@cia.edu. There is a $50 non-refundable processing fee for all refunds not initiated by the College. Processing of refunds may take up to two weeks.
REFUND SCHEDULE
7+ days before start of class: 100% refund minus processing fee
4-6 days before start of class: 50% refund minus processing fee
>4 days before start of class: 0% refund
After registering for a class, you will receive a confirmation of payment from ce@cia.edu with the subject line “Thank you for your payment.”
All supplies for Young Artist classes will be provided.
Students in Adult Classes will need to purchase the majority of their supplies unless otherwise noted. You will receive your class supply list approximately one week prior to the start of your class.
If you are taking a class in our Ceramics, Jewelry + Metals, Glass, or Fabrication Studios, materials can be purchased using our online shop at my.cia.edu. Your instructor will provide additional details on purchasing materials from the online store during your first class.
Registration for our current offerings is on a first-come, first-served basis. If you are unable to add a class to your cart, it is on a waitlist. To be added to a class waitlist, email us at ce@cia.edu. If space becomes available, we will notify you by email.
Registration closes when classes begin, after that point we will not be able to add anyone to the waitlist for the session. Waitlists are only for the current session of classes, we are unable to hold spots for future classes.
