Uptown Residence Hall

First-year students live in CIA's Uptown Residence Hall, located on Euclid Avenue in the heart of the Uptown neighborhood in University Circle, just steps from our campus. It is a great community for students in their first year who want to be close to the school.

The residence hall is comprised of two-bedroom suites that house two students per bedroom. Each bedroom has its own bathroom and comes with a bed (which can be bunked), four-drawer dresser (which can be unstacked as two two-drawer dressers to fit under the bed), and wardrobe. Pocket doors separate the bedroom from the common area.

The common area includes a kitchenette with sink, cabinets, refrigerator, and counter. It is set aside as a work-room, equipped with drawing tables and stools, so that students may work on projects.

Need to take a break from your work?

No problem. The hall has spaces for hanging out, watching TV, studying, working out, and basking in the sun. Each floor has its own social lounge where students can congregate. The hall also has a cardio lounge with treadmills, elliptical machines, and stationary bikes—the perfect place to relieve some stress. In addition, there are two quiet study areas with tables and chairs and a print station. There are also three outdoor patios (including one that overlooks Euclid Avenue and MOCA Cleveland, and another that is on the roof!).

A laundry room on the 4th floor makes it convenient—and free—to do your laundry.

Uptown Room Dimensions

The majority of rooms are two-bedroom suites. The bedrooms measure 15'11" L x 8'11" W. The bathroom is 6'11 x 5'. The common area workroom is 15'11" L x 12' W and the kitchenette is 8'6"L x 12' W.

Uptown Suite Furniture

Each suite comes with the following furniture per student. The furniture is a dark wood stain.

What to bring?

Here's a list that may prove helpful as you plan for what to bring with you when you move in, and what to discuss with your suitemates.

  • Bed: The bed is an extra-long twin bed. When you move in, the bed will be unbunked, but it can be bunked. (You just need to ask for the pins.)
  • Dresser: The dresser is a four-drawer dresser that can either be stacked or unstacked. When it is unstacked, it can easily be fit under the bed.
  • Wardrobe: The wardrobe offers additional drawer space along with two sides of hanging space (a half hanging closet and a full length hanging closet).
  • Desk: When we asked students what type of desk they would prefer, the majority of students said that they preferred a drawing table/art desk rather than a standard desk. The desks are located in the common work room area and come with a stool to use at the desk or at the kitchenette countertop.
