CIA 73rd student exhibition opens Feb. 15

CLEVELAND—Now in its 73rd year, Cleveland Institute of Art's annual Student Independent Exhibition celebrates the energy, interests and aesthetics of the next generation through selected works from artists in all majors and every class year.

The 2019 show opens with a reception from 6 to 9pm Friday, February 15 in Reinberger Gallery. The work will be on view through March 17. Admission is free.

Students control every aspect of the exhibition, including the hiring of jurors. This year's panel:

Heather Day is based in San Francisco, where she makes abstract paintings murals, spacious canvas paintings, and intimate drawings that read like handwriting. She earned her BFA from Maryland Institute College of Art.

Rena Detrixhe uses repetitive processes and collected materials to produce meticulous, large-scale objects and installations. Detrixhe has exhibited across the United States and is the recipient of numerous awards. She lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Brooklyn, New York-based Letha Wilson combines large-scale landscape photographs with sculptural elements of metal and concrete, often challenging the two-dimensional nature of traditional photography.
