CLEVELAND, Ohio (WTCL Telemundo Cleveland) – Students from the Cleveland Institute of Art’s Latinx Club are exhibiting their work in “The Other World Under the Sky.”
The club’s advisor, George Ramírez, said the exhibition is rooted in ancestral stories passed down from generation to generation.
“The theme has to do with ancestral stories, the tales passed through families for generations, and the different stories we learn from our families across Latin America,” Ramírez said.
The exhibition features works by students from Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and other countries.
Club member Claudia Bordelois said the group is proud to share their culture with Cleveland.
“We have a deep respect for our culture, and we’re trying to bring it here,” Bordelois said.
Ramírez said that’s exactly what art can do.
“It teaches us that art has another purpose as well, to share different stories that show how diverse the Latino community is,” Ramírez said.
Bordelois said working as a team to make the exhibition possible was a beautiful experience.
“It’s a beautiful experience to see people from different places, who share the same feeling, come together and work as a team to make something like this exhibition possible,” Bordelois said.
The exhibition is free and open to the public. Visitors can see the exhibition and meet the artists on Friday, March 27 at 5:30 p.m. at the Cleveland Institute of Art.
