Fabrication Studios

A student is spray painting his car model for his industrial design class. He is in the spray painting booth.

I push my creative limits through hands-on research with tools and materials.

Ideas come to life

This is the place where you can work with a wide variety of materials. Wood, plastic, metal, plaster, stone, clay, you name it. You’ll complete safety training throughout your first-year. After that training, these spaces will be at your disposal and you’ll have the skills to safely execute all your amazing ideas.

Current students can login to myCIA for more information about hours, spaces, purchasing materials and more.

Wood Shop

The wood shop is available to help you develop projects relating to woodworking and building objects with wood. The shop features ample workspace, equipment and tools to help research and conduct processes that include surfacing, cutting, shaping, sanding, turning, drilling and fastening.

Metal Shop

This is a dedicated studio for fabricating in metal. You’ll have the ability to do everything from hot and cold bending to welding, sheet metal forming to sand blasting.

Other Spaces

While in this space, you’ll work with plastic and foam. These materials are often used for making objects and sculpture. You’ll be able to accomplish the following processes: surfacing, cutting, shaping, sanding, drilling and gluing.

The machining shop is where you’ll work on milling/drilling, tapping, turning, grinding, and the CNC milling machine. While access to the equipment in this space requires additional training, the dedicated and skilled fabrication studio staff are always available to assist and train.

This is the space designed for plaster, concrete and stone carving. Plaster is a great material for mold making. Concrete is a cast-able material typically used for sculptural forms or tabletops. The best part? This room has a brick saw strong enough to cut ceramic, stone and concrete!
