Summer Teacher Residency

Since the first reports of outbreaks of COVID-19 (coronavirus), the Cleveland Institute of Art has been monitoring the spread of the illness. We are taking precautions to ensure the health and safety of our students, faculty, staff and visitors. The Summer Teacher Residency is currently scheduled to begin June 17. In the event that the Summer Teacher Residency must be canceled due to the coronavirus, we will issue full refunds.

Imagine ten days, away from the classroom, away from the distractions of life, back in the studio making work.

Through our Summer Teacher Residency, CIA brings together a diverse group of dedicated professionals for an unforgettable time of creativity and collegiality. You'll join a select group of art educators from across the country as you create a new body of studio work, and reinvigorate your teaching practice.

While on campus, residents are provided individual studio spaces, art-making supplies, and access to CIA's state-of-the-art facilities. A spirit of collaboration and community allows for regular feedback and input from your residency cohort, guided by our faculty advisors.

As a resident artist-educator you will develop a new, personal body of work with the support of an instructor in the studio. You’ll work independently, meet with a mentor for conceptual and material development, and participate in group critiques to enrich your practice. Professional development seminars are scheduled with partner institutions to enhance art room curriculum. At the end of the program, you’ll showcase the work created during your ten days at CIA in a group exhibition, with an opening and reception open to the greater community.

The 2020 residency takes place from June 17 to June 27, 2020, and will be open to educators interested in several disciplines, divided into two courses exploring the areas of:
