Technology Services

Technology is a part of almost everything at CIA, and Technology Services is here to support your work. Throughout campus, computer labs are available to students from all majors, hosting the latest computer hardware in Mac OS and Windows environments. Wacom Cintiqs, cameras, projectors, and other technologies are available for all disciplines and may be checked out for a period of time. Visit Checkout for more information. A network render farm is available for final work and renders.

Students have access to a variety of software installed throughout campus, and may buy software at a discount for their own laptops. For more information on student discounts and applicable software, check out our technology store. Software in labs include: Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator), Autodesk (Mudbox, Inventor, 3D Studio Max, Maya), Microsoft Office 365 (PowerPoint, Word, Excel), Google Drive, and much more depending on major!

Laptop Requirements

Discipline-specific technology is managed by individual majors. A list of recommended hardware, based on major, can be viewed online. Hardware requirements are reviewed each spring.

Printing

Digital printing plays an important role in the development of our students’ work. Black and white and color prints and copies are available using student credit campus-wide. For larger projects, the Digital Output Center (DOC) offers specialty printing.

Questions regarding these resources can be answered by CIA’s technology specialists.

Media Mesh

In addition to the Reinberger Gallery, CIA’s Media Mesh serves as a showcase for still and moving student work. The Media Mesh operates daily on the northwest side of the George Gund building, facing Euclid Avenue.

CIA puts a high value on security. We help keep you and your work safe with limited card key access to the residence halls and academic buildings. Check out the Safety + Security section for more information.

Laptop Requirements

CIA students should start their first-year Foundation with a laptop. Foundation year needs primarily focus on using the Adobe Suite of software programs.

Students in their major have more specific laptop needs, based on the computing needs of their major.

A list of recommended hardware requirements is available online and is updated each spring, as majors re-evaluate software and hardware needs.
