2021 Commencement details

Congratulations on getting through this most unusual year at CIA. We understand that there are a lot of details to keep track of, so this page is intended to serve as your source for all-things Commencement.

Sign up to get your photo taken crossing the stage on PBL on Monday, May 10

Key dates

Before May 10

  • Pick up cap/gown, graduation announcements, tickets for drive-in celebration, and other commencement items from Registrar's Office.
  • Submit digital content for BFA celebration video by Monday, May 3. 

May 3–7

BFA EXHIBITION + ORAL PRESENTATIONS


Monday, May 10, 11am–3pm

COMMENCEMENT PHOTO OPP + LUNCH
Students participating in Commencement can have their photo taken in their cap and gown in the Peter B. Lewis Theater. Sign-up to have your photo taken here. We'll be hosting two food trucks during this time, so have lunch on us while you're here.

COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY
You can watch the Commencement ceremony two ways:

From the comfort of home
View online with family and friends at cia.edu/commencement or on Facebook Premiere at CIA's Facebook page.

At a graduation celebration event at the Mayfield Road Drive-In Theatre
Watch the ceremony on the big screen from your car/van at the Mayfield Road Drive-In, located at 12100 State Rte 322, Chardon, OH 44024. The Drive-In will open at 7:30pm, and the ceremony will air at 8:50pm (sunset). Hangtags are required for admission; see below for details.

 

Drive-in Celebration 

Friday, May 14, 8:30pm ET

  • The Mayfield Road Drive-In Theatre is located at 12100 State Rte 322, Chardon, OH 44024.
  • The Drive-In will open at 7pm, and the ceremony will air at 8:50pm (sunset).
  • Admission: Each student was provided two hangtags to place in your vehicle when entering the drive-in. Additional hangtags are available on a first-come-first-served basis; email the Registrar's office to check availability.
  • Refreshments: The drive-in's concession stand will be open, and each car will receive one $10 voucher for refreshments. You're welcome to bring your own refreshments.
  • Following the Commencement ceremony, CIA will premier a video celebrating the work of the graduating class. Click here for details on submitting images for this video.
  • We anticipate the evening wrapping up around 11pm.

     

Diplomas and transcripts

Diplomas will be available after Commencement when final grades have been processed. Your diploma will be available for pickup or mailed to the address you indicated when you ordered your Commencement regalia. If you need to change or confirm your address, contact the Registrar.

Diplomas will not be distributed until final grades have been processed and the student has met all obligations to CIA. Your diploma and transcript will be held for the following reasons:

  • Student has a balance on their account
  • Student owes Library materials
  • Student has Student Life fees
  • Student owes items to Equipment Checkout
  • Student has Department-specific obligations that have been unmet
  • Student has not completed Federal Financial Aid Exit Counseling

Students who have been granted permission to participate in Commencement but have not officially graduated will receive their diploma during the next graduation period.

Replacement diplomas have a reprint fee of $50.
