Cleveland Institute of Art uses a dual grading system. This type of grading system allows instructors to separately evaluate a student’s academic merit as well as the effort they put forth during class and projects.

Grades of “incomplete” must be made up for a letter grade by the end of the fourth week of the following semester in order to avoid failure of the course. Students wishing to change a course to audit status must do so by the end of the eighth week of the semester. An audited course carries the same tuition charge as a course taken for credit.
