2022 Commencement
139th Commencement Ceremony honoring the 2022 graduates
Parents, family, and friends of the Class of 2022 joined the Cleveland Institute of Art for our Commencement on Friday, May 13, at 10am ET. It was our first in-person ceremony since 2019 because of the COVID pandemic.
Our Commencement speaker was Jeremy V. Johnson, President and CEO of Assembly for the Arts.
The Student Commencement speaker was Allison Wygonik, Animation major, and the President’s Traveling Scholarship award recipients were announced during the ceremony.
CIA President + CEO Grafton Nunes was presented with a degree of Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters for his leadership and extraordinary legacy. Nunes retires June 30, 2022.
CIA created #ciagrad2022 for seniors to use to share photos and posts on social media to commemorate their time at CIA.

University Circle and Cleveland has hotel accommodations and dining options at various price points.
Diplomas are not distributed to students during the ceremony. Diplomas are mailed in June.
Degree candidates must meet specific obligations for graduation before diplomas and final transcripts will be issued.
