This Week at CIA: November 8-14

Come to The Cleveland Institute of Art this week for a schedule packed with artist talks, gallery shows, and even live music.

Enjoy free, public events this week at The Cleveland Institute of Art.

Foundation Visiting Artist Tommy Simpson
Tuesday, Nov 9, 7pm (Aitken Auditorium)
Artist, sculptor, and craftsperson Tommy Simpson gives a talk on his unique career and gives audience members a look at his fanciful wood designs. An MFA graduate in painting from the Cranbrook Academy of Art, Simpson’s life as an artist has taken his work to locales as diverse as London, Tokyo, Frankfurt, and Athens—Greece that is. Free pizza. Sponsored by CIA’s Foundation program.

Cleveland Institute of Music Vera String Quartet
Thursday, Nov 11, 7:30pm (Aitken Auditorium)
Four CIM students deliver a free, public concert at CIA. Don’t miss this chance to hear performers from this highly regarded music conservatory, one of our neighbors in University Circle.

Lunch on Friday: Fibers Visiting Artist Jill Sigman
“Body, Object, Material: How I Am My Work”
Friday, Nov 12, 12:15pm (Ohio Bell Auditorium)
Choreographer and multimedia artist Jill Sigman will discuss her process and projects using her body as a tool for asking questions about the world. Sigman’s work exists at the intersection of dance, theater, and installation, and often involves quotidian materials such as Cheetos, eggshells, wax, and plastic. She is currently at work on The Hut Project, a series of site-specific structures built of found and re-purposed materials, investigating themes of sustainability, real estate, and apocalypse. Learn more at thinkdance.org. The Lunch on Friday series is sponsored by CIA's Liberal Arts and Foundation Environments. Jill Sigman appears through the sponsorship of the Fiber + Material Studies Department.
