Pre-College profile: Jacquie Kennedy, Printmaking + Ceramics

Jacquie Kennedy earned her BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 2012 and recently completed a two-year residency in CIA’s Jewelry + Metals Department. She is represented by Cleveland galleries and has work in private art collections and at the Cuyahoga County Administrative Headquarters. Recently, she answered a few questions for us about art, design and her Pre-College course.

Who is your favorite artist?

There are many artists that I look at and read about. Currently, I am enjoying Doris Salcedo, Cecilia Vicuna, Anselm Kiefer, Auguste Rodin, Iris Eichenberg.

What do you love about your specific discipline?

What I love about my discipline is the interdisciplinary approach to my work. I use installation, collage, printmaking and metal-smithing to convey my ideas.

What do you think it means to be a real artist?

I feel that a true artist is driven by the passion for making art and sharing it.

What’s the most difficult thing about being an artist?

The most difficult thing about being an artist is overcoming self-doubt and getting the work out into the world.
