CLEVELAND—Magic and reality live side by side in There's no basement at the Alamo, the 2019 Cleveland Institute of Art alumni exhibition on view July 12 through August 16 in Reinberger Gallery, 11610 Euclid Ave, Cleveland.
Curated by 2005 CIA alumna Courtenay Finn, who is chief curator at moCa Cleveland, the exhibition takes its title from the beloved 1985 cult classic film Pee-wee’s Big Adventure. Like the wild, funhouse-like atmosphere of the film, the show is an exhilarating and refreshing collection of works that are lovingly made, enticingly beautiful, and also a bit wacky.
Participating artists are Rebecca Aloisio, Susan Breitsch, David Buttram, Allen Camp, Leslye Discont Arian, Bonnie Dolin, Michelle Droll, Kimberly Engel, Molly Fitzpatrick, Joseph Fruce, John Hrehov, Kate Kisicki, Karolena Kuhn, Melinda Lasczynski, Gregory Macek, James Meeks, Nicholas Moenich, Jenniffer Omaitz, Kiara Pelissier, Loraine Ruetz, Simone Schiffmacher, Elinore Schnurr, Petra Soesemann, Thomas Spoerndle, and Amy Vidra.
