Cleveland Institute of Art's 72nd annual Student Independent Exhibition (SIE) will be on view from February 16 through March 18, 2018 in Reinberger Gallery, 11610 Euclid Ave., Cleveland.

Gallery Hours are 10am to 5pm Monday through Thursday; 10am through 9pm Friday, and noon to 5pm Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free.

SIE is organized entirely by students, who choose the jurors and mount the exhibition. More than 100 works will range from painting and drawing to design, ceramics and video. The opening reception will be from 6 to 9pm Friday, February 16. An awards ceremony, generously supported by the CIA Board of Directors and other donors, will begin at 7pm.

“The Student Independent Exhibition is one of Reinberger Gallery’s most exciting yearly exhibitions,” says Nikki Woods, gallery director. “The work is always daring, and reminds us of the importance of playful experimentation and the need to take chances, and to question the status quo.”

This year's jurors, nominated by students and invited by the SIE committee, are:

Claire Ashley, a Chicago-based artist working in painting, sculpture, installation and performance, using inflatables. Originally from Scotland, she received her BA in Painting and Drawing from Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen, Scotland and an MFA in Painting and Drawing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she currently teaches.

Casey Riordan Millard is a Cincinnati-based artist working in a variety of media ranging from drawing and painting to sculpture and publication. Her work often features a character named Shark Girl, who is a reflection of herself. Casey received her BFA from Ohio University.

Art Werger is a printmaker based in Athens, Ohio where he is also a professor at Ohio University. He is best known for his incredibly detailed work in etching and aquatint, and is one of the most prolific artists working in mezzotint. Art received his BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design, and his MFA from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

The Student Independent Exhibition is generously supported by Prizm, The Artist’s Supply Store, and by the residents of Cuyahoga County through a public grant from Cuyahoga Arts & Culture.
