Visiting the Library
Everyone is welcome in CIA's Gund Library. Our primary mission is to serve current students, faculty and staff of the Cleveland Institute of Art and our partner libraries - Case Western Reserve University, the Cleveland Institute of Music, and the Rock Hall Library & Archives. As an OhioLINK participant, we also welcome current students, faculty and staff from any OhioLINK library.
The general public, visiting scholars, and art and design professionals are welcome to use the collections on-site on weekdays during regular business hours. Visitors wishing to use the library during nights or weekends should call in advance and will need to sign in with the Institute's security personnel. Access to Special Collections and the Institute's Archives for non-CIA researchers is by appointment only and limited to weekdays between 9am and 5pm as librarians are available. Anyone 16 years of age or younger must be accompanied by an adult while in the library.
Library computers are reserved for CIA faculty, staff, and students; visitors must ask at the desk for guest login access. Visitor use of the computers is strictly limited to library research activities. Printing is restricted to CIA and partner library patrons.
Please note: Anyone 16 years of age or younger must be accompanied by an adult while in the library.
The Gund Library licenses, subsidizes, and provides access to a variety of digital resources and images for non-commercial educational and scholarly use by current Institute students, faculty, and staff and for library visitor reference. Use of digital images may have additional restrictions for use beyond CIA classroom instruction. If you are in doubt about the legality of your use of the library's digital resources or images, please contact the library staff.
The Gund Library also provides on-campus access to OhioLINK databases.
Copyrighted resources may be used only for private research and study, instruction, and non-commercial use. U.S. Copyright law (Title 17, U.S. Code) governs the use of copyrighted materials. Any person using databases licensed by the Gund Library or provided through OhioLINK is personally liable for any infringement.
Your CIA ID is your library card, and is required to borrow library materials at the Gund Library and at any of our partner libraries. If you have not activated your library account, please contact the library staff.
