Join CIA's Latinx Heritage and Appreciation Club to celebrate its third annual exhibition, El Otro Mundo Debajo del Cielo (The Other World Below the Sky). A closing reception will be held from 5:30 to 8pm Friday, March 27. The event will feature music, light refreshments, and a chance to meet and interact with all the artists as well as other community members.
El Otro Mundo Debajo del Cielo highlights the richness of ancestral stories, indigenous spirituality, folktales, urban legends and myths that permeate the history of Latin America through timeless stories such as El Cuco (The Boogeyman), La Ciguapa (aka "the mountain mermaid") or La Llorona (The Weeping Woman). Visitors are invited to explore contemporary interpretations that have been passed from one generation to the next.
A related exhibition that showcases work created by CIA Latinx Club students in collaboration with Case Western Reserve University students involved in Esperanza, a nonprofit that provides college-readiness programs and other services to Hispanic students and families in Northeast Ohio, will close the same night in CIA's Donna and Stewart Kohl Corridor. Like the work in El Otro Mundo Debajo del Cielo, the paintings in this exhibition explore cultural urban myths.
Parking for the closing reception is available in CIA’s Lot 73 and Annex Lot, both of which surround campus and can be accessed via East 117th Street. To accommodate the event, parking policies posted in the lots will not be enforced that evening.
