Artists David K. Ross
Smoke and Steel is a projected video installation which considers the poetic reverence of steel work offered by poet Carl Sandburg weighed against the artist’s own experiences working as a machine operator in a contemporary steel manufacturing plant.
David K Ross is a Sculpture X emerging artist and student in the Sculpture + Expanded Media department at the Cleveland Institute of Art. Smoke and Steel incorporates pastoral and idyllic representations of the natural world within ethereal renderings of the architecture and ephemera of steel manufacturing. This work presents imagery representative of the dissociative and transfixing experiences of contemporary labor from the perspective of the worker.
Smoke and Steel will be located within the interior courtyard adjacent to the David Davis studio within The Sculpture Center from 8pm to 9:30pm on Friday, May 21.The Sculpture Center
