Where Cleveland Institute of Art, Toby Lewis Media Mesh
As part of the 2019 Cleveland Humanities Festival, a story of the Cleveland Institute of Art’s artistic and educational commitment to the natural world will unfold on the Toby Lewis Media Mesh on the northwest facade of CIA’s George Gund Building, 11610 Euclid Avenue, on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Through showcasing student work from CIA’s 15 majors—including the Biomedical Art and Industrial Design, and from such courses as Landscape Photography and Environment, Art + Engaged Practice—this exhibition of images hopes to open a conversation about the vital role of artists and designers in not only representing the natural world but through collaboration with professional and grassroots partners, increasing understanding of the science of nature as well as addressing one of society’s most pressing concerns: the environment.
This exhibition reflects CIA’s commitment to the community, through which all degree-seeking students at CIA complete a minimum of three credits of Engaged Practice, with our world-class faculty connecting students with community partners to collaborate on real-world, professional projects, thus building better futures for themselves and for the world, one project at a time.
