Artists Julia Milbrandt
Technicolor Perspective is a debut solo exhibition by emerging visual artist Julia Milbrandt. Using bright, vibrant, candy-like colors and the lure of the illusion of reflective materials, these works attract viewers with their razzle-dazzle effects. Layered over photographs and incorporated into photorealistic drawings, these enticing characteristics invite viewers from afar to come and investigate these works more closely.
Milbrandt’s work reimagines her everyday experience through a more colorful, joyful lens. With an emphasis on play in her processes of image making and altering, she aims to bring light to the brighter parts of life, and the importance of finding awe, wonder and joy in the smaller things. At the same time, the abstraction as a result of play in her practice creates a dynamic in the images between what is reality, and what is merely her imagined illusion.
This exhibition is made possible by a generous grant by the Fenn Educational Fund of the Cleveland Foundation through the Creativity Works program at the Cleveland Institute of Art.
