Core Functions is the inaugural show for two newly Archived Artists, ceramicist Bette Drake and painter and printmaker Marvin Jones. Drake graduated CIA in 1965 with a minor in painting and a major in ceramics, studying under Toshiko Takaez. Marvin Jones (1940 – 2005) was a professor of art at CSU for over 20 years. His far-out & playful images draw extensively from the California Funk Art movement as well as Outsider Art, Inuit, Aboriginal, African and Mexican Folk Art. This dazzling mix of 2D and 3D work underscores the ability of color and content to unite across media. Just blocks away from CIA next to the Sculpture Center.
