CIA’s month of creativity is actually more than a month, with multiple opportunities for lovers of art and design to see what the next generation of innovators is thinking! All events listed below are free and open to the public.

Dinner by Design – Art of the Table

March 28 through May 3
Where: Reinberger Galleries, Gund Building, 11141 East Boulevard

Delightful may be the best word to describe Dinner By Design – Art of the Table, an exhibition highlighting new and innovative work by accomplished student artists and designers working in glass, clay, metals and other materials. Featured are flatware, vessels, dinnerware, and other works designed and created by students.

CIA Professor Matthew Hollern noted the design works are not typical table settings. “The table is probably the most interesting project for us when we talk about our material culture. It provides a beautiful opportunity for students to explore a wide range of objects and materials and concepts associated with our daily rituals,” he said.

2014 Biomedical Art Spring Show

April 14 through April 25
Where: Humphrey Gallery, University Hospitals,
 11100 Euclid Avenue

Established on the traditional field of scientific and medical illustration, CIA’s approach to Biomedical Art incorporates leading-edge art techniques and a strong foundation in natural and medical science. It’s a mix of expertise found only at the Cleveland Institute of Art. In fact, in each of the past three years, two CIA students won awards at the Association of Medical Illustrators Conference, competing against undergrads and graduate students of medical illustration from highly competitive colleges and universities. The Biomedical Art Spring Show reception will be held on Thursday, April 17, 5:30-7pm.

The runway show has become a perennial crowd pleaser at CIA, highlighting some of the most innovative works of art and design created by students from several different majors.
