International Students

International students are eligible for the CIA Pre-College program and are welcome to apply! While participants are not required to submit scores from an English proficiency test in order to attend, or submit any proof of English proficiency, all students should understand that the program is administered in English. In order to attend the program, participants need to obtain a B1 Tourist Visa. Please note that the Pre-College program, even though it can be taken for college level credit, is considered “incidental study”. Upon acceptance, international students should email precollege@cia.edu to be provided with a letter to take to a consular appointment at the Embassy and at the Point of Entry/airport when entering the United States.

Refundable Deposits

Each student is required to submit a $100 materials and lab deposit which covers any lost or damaged equipment during the program. In addition, residential students submit a $150 housing deposit to cover any damages to their room or other residence hall property. Both deposits are refundable at the end of the program, barring any damages.

Tuition Deadline

April 1, 2024: priority applicant payment and acceptance packet deadline.

June 1, 2024: rolling applicant payment and acceptance packet deadline.

Scholarships

**Scholarship consideration is not available for applications received after February 15, as all scholarship funds have been awarded in full for Pre-College in Summer 2024.

To be considered for scholarships, students must submit their Pre-College application by the priority deadline of February 15. To apply, you will need to select "yes" to the question pertaining to scholarship consideration in the application, and then complete the following additional requirements: submit a copy of the most recent tax return of whoever claims you as a dependent, as well as a statement of intent, and a portfolio of 5-8 works.

A limited number of scholarships from $250-$1,400 are available. The number of awards we are able to allocate depends on available funding and the amount of scholarship applicants we receive. We do our best to allot as many scholarships as possible; however applying for a scholarship does not guarantee you will receive scholarship funding. Scholarships are distributed based on financial need and portfolio strength.

Scholarships are independent of the FAFSA application and process.

Graffiti HeArt will be working with CIA to provide Pre-College scholarships, which will be awarded based on a review of portfolios and a determination of both merit and need. With the mission, “To Inspire Health and Art in the Community,” the local nonprofit focuses on promoting graffiti art and artists through community revitalization projects, funding art education and scholarships for underserved youth in our communities.

The Graffiti HeArt scholarship does not require a separate application. All Pre-College applications received by February 15 that indicate scholarship consideration and fulfill the additional requirements will automatically considered for both the Graffiti HeArt scholarships and our Pre-College Admissions scholarships.

For questions regarding scholarships, contact precollege@cia.edu.

Pre-College is also an approved program for the State of Ohio’s afterschool child enrichment (ACE) educational savings program, which offers qualifying families up to $1,000 per student per year to spend on afterschool and camp programs. Those who have funding through ACE simply need to submit their tuition payment receipt through ACE’s system to receive reimbursement for up to $1000 of the tuition cost.
