The first installment in one of Japan’s longest running film series (26 theatrical features from 1962 to 1989, followed by a 100-episode TV series and assorted remakes and reboots) introduces us to the blind masseur/master swordsman Zatoichi (played by Shintaro Katsu), who fights for justice during late Edo-period Japan. Here Ichi becomes involved in a yakuza war. Subtitles. Scope DCP. 96 min.
