SMOKING CAUSES COUGHING

FUMER FAIT TOUSSER
France, Monaco | 2022 | Quentin Dupieux

SMOKING CAUSES COUGHING film still

This silly, cheesy, anything-for-a-laugh comedy from the director of Rubber, Deerskin, and this year’s Cannes Opening Night film The Second Act focuses on five spandex-wearing, cigarette-brandishing superheroes known as the Tobacco Force. (Why the emphasis on smoking? Well, they’re French…) After dispatching a giant turtle by giving it cancer, the group “recharges its batteries” during a weeklong team retreat—which is cut short when an evil emperor decides to destroy Earth. “A superhero movie for idiots…One of the best films of the year.” –John Waters. Subtitles. Scope DCP. 77 min.
