The new feature by award-winning Chicago multimedia artist and filmmaker Deborah Stratman is a singular blend of science and sci-fi. Stratman examines evolution and extinction from the perspective of the rocks and minerals that pre-dated humanity and will outlast us. Stunning images spanning microscopic forms to vast vistas paint a picture of the universe not centered on human beings. Cleveland premiere. 35mm. 50 min. Preceded at 5:00 by Roman Kroitor and Colin Low’s 29-min. Universe (Canada, 1960, DCP), a dazzling journey into outer space that heavily influenced Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey.The film’s narrator, Douglas Rain, became the voice of HAL.
