VIVA ZAPATA! film still

The least known of Marlon Brando’s three screen collaborations with director Elia Kazan (the other two are A Streetcar Named Desire and On the Waterfront) is a John Steinbeck-penned portrait of Mexican revolutionary Emiliano Zapata (Brando), who led a peasant revolt against the country’s tyrannical government early in the 20th century. As Zapata’s brother, Anthony Quinn won an Oscar. “Four stars (highest rating)…Brando is perfect.” –Leonard Maltin’s Movie Guide. DCP. 113 min.
