SANS SOLEIL (SUNLESS) film still

The Cinematheque’s new director, Bilgesu Sisman, will introduce and answer audience questions after a screening of one of her favorite movies (also voted the 59th greatest film of all time in the 2022 Sight and Sound magazine poll). Regarded as the feature-length masterpiece of French documentarian Chris (La Jetée) Marker, Sans Soleil is an evocative collage of sights captured by the globe-trotting filmmaker in Japan, Africa, Iceland, Paris, and San Francisco, accompanied by his insights about memory, history, society, and technology. “Marker, the cinema’s greatest essayist, sums up a lifetime’s travels, speculations and passions.” –Time Out Film Guide. English narration. DCP. 103 min.
