LE OTTO MONTAGNE
Belgium, France, Italy, United Kingdom
| 2022 | Felix van Groeningen, Charlotte Vandermeersch
An 11-year-old city boy spends a summer in a rustic mountain village in the magnificent Italian Alps, where he befriends another 11-year-old boy who lives there. The two form an unbreakable bond that spiritually unites them through subsequent decades, even as their two lives go in divergent directions. Felix van Groeningen previously directed the 2012 Belgian bluegrass movie The Broken Circle Breakdown. “This is the rare movie that understands how tied we are to the physical and psychological spaces of childhood, how our families and the traditions they raised us with can be both nurturing and limiting.” –L.A.
