Cleveland premiere!
France, Germany, Portugal, Spain | 2022 | Albert Serra
Named the best film of 2022 by Cahiers du Cinéma magazine and called “the art movie of the year” by IndieWire, the new film by Albert Serra (The Death of Louis XIV) is a sensuous, languorous contemporary thriller set on the French Polynesian island of Tahiti. There the French High Commissioner (Benoît Magimel) schmoozes members of the wealthy establishment and leaders of the indigenous community—that is, when he’s not hanging out at the island’s more disreputable bars and clubs. But rumors of a French nuclear sub in the region have him concerned that atomic testing is about to resume. “An immersive tropical thriller/reverie that's like Weerasethakul meets Pakula.” –IndieWire. Cleveland premiere. Subtitles. DCP. 162 min.
