Olivier’s Shakespeare Films
United Kingdom | 1955 | Laurence Olivier
In his third and final Shakespeare film as star and director, Laurence Olivier plays the ruthless, physically-deformed, 15th-century Duke of Gloucester who stops at nothing to steal the crown from his brother, King Edward IV. Shot in color and VistaVision, this superbly-acted drama has a distinguished supporting cast that includes John Gielgud, Ralph Richardson, Cedric Hardwicke, and Claire Bloom, among others. “Olivier makes Shakespeare’s ‘son of hell’ such a magnetic, chilling, amusing monster that the villainy arouses an almost immoral delight.” –Pauline Kael. DCP. 158 min.
Special admission $12; members, CIA & CSU I.D. holders, and those age 25 & under $9. No passes.
