HEOJIL KYOLSHIM
South Korea
| 2022 | Park Chan-wook
The new film from the director of Oldboy and The Handmaiden is one of the major movies of 2022, as well as South Korea’s entry for next year’s Oscar for Best Int’l Feature Film. Filmmaker Park Chan-wook even nabbed the Best Director prize at Cannes 2022 for his romantic neo-noir thriller, in which a detective investigating a man’s mysterious death becomes involved with the dead man’s strangely blasé widow. “After the world-conquering success of Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite and the small-screen domination of Squid Game, your new, sublimely accomplished Korean thriller obsession is here, and it is Park Chan-wook’s Decision to Leave.” –Variety. Cleveland premiere. Subtitles, DCP. 138 min
