BICYCLE THIEVES

aka THE BICYCLE THIEF; LADRI DI BICICLETTE
Italy | 1948 | Vittorio De Sica

BICYCLE THIEVES film still

“A masterpiece…the most universally praised movie on earth since WWII.” So said The Village Voice at one time about Vittorio De Sica’s heart-wrenching classic, the pinnacle of Italian neo-realism, which finished among the 10 best movies of all time in Sight & Sound’s 1952 and 1962 “greatest films” polls. Shot on location in postwar Rome with non-professional actors, the film tells of a long-unemployed man who, accompanied by his young son, scours the city for his stolen bicycle, desperately needed for his new job. Subtitles. DCP. 89 min.

General admission $11; members, CIA & CSU I.D.holders, and those age 25 & under $8.

Face masks, though always recommended, must be worn by filmgoers only when the CDC’s community risk level for Covid in Cuyahoga County is HIGH. Visit cia.edu/covid for the current community risk level and see the “Face Coverings” section for our detailed mask requirements.

As a reminder, filmgoers can park for free in Lot 73 and in the Institute's annex lot, and should enter CIA via nearby Entrance C. Click here for a map.
