THE TIT AND THE MOON

LA TETA Y LA LUNA
France, Spain | 1994 | Bigas Luna

THE TIT AND THE MOON film still

Mathilda May stars in the final part of Bigas Luna’s “Iberian Trilogy” (see 6/11 & 18). It’s the tender tale of a nine-year-old Spanish boy who still yearns for his mother’s breast, which is now monopolized by his baby brother. Jealous and frustrated, the child asks the moon for a teat of his own. His prayer is answered by the arrival of an itinerant French cabaret performer, but he soon discovers that two older males are also competing for her attention. “A featherweight but frequently charming fairy tale…A glowing widescreen canvas of vivid color.” –Variety. Subtitles. 35mm print from Europe. 90 min. Bigas Luna specialist Santiago Fouz Hernández, Professor in Iberian Studies and Film Studies at Durham University in the UK, will introduce the film via a pre-recorded custom video.

Special admission $13; members, CIA & CSU I.D. holders, and those age 25 & under $10. No passes or twofers.

This film is co-presented by The Bigas Luna Tribute, a series of global events organized by Bigas Luna’s daughter, Betty Bigas, and Bigas Luna specialist Santiago Fouz Hernández, Professor in Iberian Studies and Film Studies at Durham University, UK. It is co-sponsored by Durham University. Special thanks to Diana Drumm, Quad Cinema, New York.
