OUT OF THE BLUE

Canada | 1980 | Dennis Hopper

OUT OF THE BLUE film still

Dennis Hopper’s third directorial outing is both an extension of Easy Rider and a prelude to Blue Velvet. It’s an apocalyptic family saga in which a rebellious teen punker (Linda Manz of Days of Heaven) tries to escape the pernicious influence of her irresponsible, incarcerated father (Hopper) and her junkie mother (Sharon Farrell). “Hopper’s most brutal and accomplished movie.” -J. Hoberman. Adults only! Cleveland revival premiere. DCP. 94 min.

Special admission $11; members, CIA & CSU I.D. holders, and those age 25 & under $8. No passes or twofers.

Our Covid protocols. All Cinematheque moviegoers are required to show proof of Covid vaccination and a photo ID upon entering CIA. This is in addition to having their temperature taken via a touchless device and wearing a mask for the duration of their visit. Learn more under the "Vaccination Requirement: Visitors to CIA" section at cia.edu/covid. As a reminder, filmgoers can park for free in Lot 73 and in the Institute's annex lot and should enter CIA via nearby Entrance C. Click here for a map.
