| 2003 | Tsai Ming-liang
The NY Times has called this beloved work by Tsai Ming-liang (The Hole, Days) “arguably the greatest film ever made about moviegoing.” Set in a rundown, largely empty, soon-to-be-shuttered Taipei movie palace showing King Hu’s 1967 Hong Kong martial arts classic Dragon Inn, Tsai’s minimalist movie employs long takes and little dialogue to capture the assorted misfits, dreamers, lovers, and loners who inhabit this “haunted” theatre. We follow them as they watch (or ignore) the movie, cruise the auditorium, or navigate the building’s dank corridors. With Lee Kang-sheng. ‘(A) paean to the lost art of wasting one’s life in movie houses.” –Phillip Lopate. "THE best film of the past 125 years." --Apichatpong Weerasethakul. Cleveland revival premiere. Subtitles. Restored DCP. 82 min.
Special admission $11; members, CIA & CSU I.D. holders, and those age 25 & under $8. No passes or twofers.
