Fritz Lang re-cast his Big Heat co-stars Glenn Ford and Gloria Grahame in this moody, muscular American update of Zola’s La Bête Humaine (The Human Beast). Then he added Broderick Crawford to the sordid, fatalistic mix. Set among train workers toiling in stark, steely railyards, the film follows a Korean war vet who is lured into a married couple’s web of jealousy, adultery, and murder. DCP. 91 min.
