Online exclusive! Available starting 5/28.
China, United States | 2018 | Cathy Yan
This quirky and stylish Chinese social satire, the debut film from the director of Birds of Prey, focuses on a group of kooky characters—a provincial pig farmer, a pig-headed beauty salon owner, a lovestruck busboy, et al.—whose lives converge, collide, and cross as thousands of dead pigs float down the river toward rapidly modernizing Shanghai. Produced by Jia Zhang-ke and inspired by the 2013 Huangpu River dead pigs incident (look it up). “[A] delightful, spiky, comic debut…An antidote to China’s weightier arthouse output,” –Variety. Cleveland premiere. Subtitles. 130 min
