| 2020 | Mohammad Rasoulof
We’re proud to be a community partner on one of the new films showing in this year’s all-virtual 45th Cleveland International Film Festival, CIFF45 Streams, running April 7-20. Our 2021 partnership presentation is the latest movie by Iranian master Mohammad Rasoulof, whose earlier films Iron Island, The White Meadows, and Manuscripts Don’t Burn showed at the Cinematheque. There Is No Evil, which won the top prize at last year’s Berlin Film Festival, is currently banned in Iran. Rasoulof himself has been barred from making films and leaving the country intermittently since 2010, but court orders and prison sentences have not stopped him. In fact, his new work is one of his most subversive, telling four separate, unrelated stories that touch on the morality of capital punishment (which is both frequent in Iran and frequently carried out by conscripted soldiers following orders). Cleveland premiere. Subtitles. 150 min.
There Is No Evil, part of CIFF45 Streams, can be viewed online by a limited number of filmgoers (first come, first served) from 4/8 thru 4/20. Tickets can be purchased at the link below. Price is $10, but you save a dollar when you enter our discount code CINE. (This code can also be used for $1 off tickets to any CIFF45 Streams movie or program.)
