Winner of the 1972 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, this late-career triumph for the celebrated director of Bicycle Thieves and Shoeshine focuses on a family of aristocratic northern Italian Jews who shield themselves from Mussolini’s Fascism and anti-Semitic views by holing up behind the walls of their lavish estate.
