The new film from the director of Chan Is Missing and The Joy Luck Club is based on a New Yorker essay about a first generation Korean-American man who returns to his San Francisco home to care for his ailing Korean mother. As he prepares a traditional Korean New Year’s Eve dinner, memories of his mom and conflicted feelings about their relationship come to the fore. “Sensitively observed.” –Variety.
