THE WOMAN WHO LOVES GIRAFFES

Canada | 2018 | Alison Reid

THE WOMAN WHO LOVES GIRAFFES film still

In 1956, four years before Jane Goodall ventured into the world of chimpanzees and seven years before Dian Fossey left to work with mountain gorillas, 23-year-old Canadian biologist Anne Innis Dagg made an unprecedented solo journey to South Africa to study giraffes in the wild. Now 86, the world’s first “giraffologist” retraces her steps, looking back over a scientific career scarred by sexism while pondering the current plight of her beloved animals. Includes stunning, original 16mm film footage. DCP. 83 min.
