The most celebrated Yiddish-language film of all time is an adaptation of S. Ansky’s famous play. A 19th-century Jewish bride is possessed by the soul of a dead person, or dybbuk. In this case, it’s that of her deceased true love—but the village rabbi must exorcise it regardless.
