New Digital Restoration!
United States | 1990 | Jennie Livingston
Here’s a new restoration of the landmark documentary about NYC’s African American and Latinx Harlem drag ball scene during the 1980s. The film offers an intimate portrait of rival fashion “houses” who compete against each other for trophies but stand together to provide a bulwark against homophobia, transphobia, racism, AIDS, and poverty. Features legendary voguers, drag queens, and trans women like Willi Ninja, Pepper LaBeija, Dorian Corey, and Venus Xtravaganza. Cleveland revival premiere. DCP. 78 min.
